The Harveys – where past meets present

The open day of the show house at The Harveys in The Heatons was a busy affair this weekend, and we can see why. The stylish development blends classic Victorian architecture with contemporary design and living and consists of eight detached and a pair of semi-detached high specification five bedroomed homes. They all have stunning accommodation over three floors and an integral garage and reside in their own block paved and tree lined cul-de-sac, with off road parking for each property.

Nick Maskrey at Towerhouse Homes, is the man behind The Harveys, and tells us about the unique properties on offer.

“I have always lived in the Heatons myself, and after building, converting and refurbishing properties elsewhere in South Manchester and Cheshire, I jumped at the chance to create family homes right here in the Heatons. The Heatons are one of the area’s most sought after suburbs with outstanding local schools, excellent transport links and a vibrant café society combined with a variety of local shops, so there’s always a demand for exceptional family homes.”

“Architectural detail is often lost in most new builds, and I wanted the properties to pay homage to the most desirable features of Victorian architecture including the steep roof lines, double bay windows and slate roofs. But the benefit of building these in the 21st century is that the homes are more energy efficient.”

The homes may look traditional, with coving and a traditional log burning stove in the lounge, but are suited to modern living with a huge tiled open plan kitchen and living space at the back of each house. “The bespoke state of the art fitted kitchen includes granite worktops, along with a sociable island. It’s a fantastic space for entertaining or just relaxing with the family, whilst looking out on to the garden which is accessed through two triple bi-folding doors to add to the feeling of space. There are multi-room media and music system options available and a choice of LED lighting to suit the owner.”

“Upstairs are five double bedrooms spread over two floors with built in wardrobes in the master. There are two indulgent en-suites and a family bathroom, all fully tiled and with underfloor heating.”
The development is named after entrepreneur and former resident of the Victorian Mansion ‘Melrose’ that adjoins the development Joseph ‘Joe’ Harvey MBE. Joe started an engineering patternmaking business in the kitchen of a tenement in Heaton Norris and built it into an international company which trained craftsmen and apprentices from all over the world. He was awarded an MBE in 1991 for innovation and contributions to industry. The Harveys are built in the paddock and grounds of ‘Melrose’, and the Victorian mansion has now been recently restored to its former glory.
